Blog 16~Scene Response

The scene from O that I chose to write about is towards the end of the movie after all the killing & arrests. The scene where Hugo's father is crying in his office. He's sobbing, actually. What I wondered throughout this short scene: what is he crying about? Is he crying because his son just went off the deep end and planned and participated in several murders? Or because his star basketball player is dead? Or because he won't get the coaching job he wanted because of the big mess surrounding him? My thoughts initially were that he was crying for Oden. Throughout the movie, it was all about Oden. He left his son alone in his office to eat dinner after explaining how important Oden was. He told everyone he loved Oden "like his own son". However, a part of me hopes he was crying for his son. Not because he disgraced him, but because he genuinely felt bad for Hugo. Hopefully he felt bad because he realized that he was a really crappy father, and maybe could have prevented some, if not all, of the mess had he just shown his son that he was special too.
